The 1980s was a decade in which going on a holiday meant going on month long trips to people’s ancestral villages during the kids’ summer vacations. An escape to the cool mountains of Shimla from the sultry Mumbai weather or scorching Delhi heat was a privilege availed only by a handful.
The 1980s was also the decade when Mr Sanjay Dalmia revolutionised the way India’s middle class vacationed. In 1985, he introduced the concept of Time Share Holiday Resorts which allowed families to purchase vacation memberships at resorts at various destinations for a fixed term and at nominal rates. This was a major breakthrough in the way holidaying was perceived in India till then. Thus began a flurry of activity in the Indian tourism sector and India’s middle class started to discover a world beyond the doorstep of the hometowns and villages. With the passing years, Dalmia Resorts has added many budget retreats and satisfied customers to their credit.
Dalmia resorts is currently managed by Mrs Indu Dalmia, an entrepreneur with a rich experience in the management of units in the leisure and recreation sector.
